A Clinical Review of Gastro-Duodenal Ulcer Perforations

Abstract
This clinical review was made for 52 cases of perforated gastro-duodenal ulcer which were treated
surgically at the Korea Univertity Woo Sok hospital from Jan., 1960 to Nov., 1971.
1) Incidence of duodenal ulcer perforation was more higher than that of gastrcic ulcer perforation with
52.1% to 47.9%.
2) Perforation was commonest in the 2nd and 3rd decade, and sex distributions were 42 in males and
10 in females with ratio of 4.2 to 1.
3) The highest incidence of gastro-duodenal perforation occured in June, and the lowest incidence, in
Feb., and November.
4) Subdiaphragmatic free gas on plain X-Ray film was noted in 41 cases (77%) of the patients.
5) THe most frequent location of perforation was anterior wall of stomach (90%) in gastric ulcer
and anterior wasll of duodenum (95.5%) in gastric ulcer.
6) The sixe below 5§® of perforation orfice was in 73.8% of gastro-duodenal ulcer perforation.
7) As for the emergency surgical pyloroplasty with vagotomy in 18 cases (34.6%).
8) The early post operative complications were noted in 13 cases (24.8%) and over all mortality was
3.8%.
